Mattress prices follow a predictable yearly rhythm. Here is the month-by-month calendar of when LA sales actually happen, and when waiting for one is a mistake.

Mattress pricing is more predictable than most people assume. Manufacturers refresh their lineups on a schedule, retailers clear the old models to make room, and the discounts cluster around a handful of holidays every year. If your current bed still has a few months left in it, timing your purchase can genuinely save you money.
Here is how the year actually runs, and the situations where waiting for a sale is the wrong call.
The three-day federal holiday weekends are when mattress discounts run deepest: Presidents Day in February, Memorial Day in May, Labor Day in September, and Black Friday through Cyber Monday in late November. Of these, Memorial Day and Labor Day tend to be the strongest because they line up with the manufacturer product cycle.
Two things drive it. First, mattress makers typically introduce new model lines in late spring and early summer. Retailers need the floor space, so the outgoing models get marked down around Memorial Day and again heading into Labor Day. Buying a discontinued model is usually a smart move, since the changes year to year are often cosmetic.
Second, holiday weekends are simply when people shop for furniture. Three days off means time to visit a showroom, and the whole industry prices accordingly.
Quiet. Some post-holiday clearance carries over, and new year sleep resolutions bring shoppers in, but the discounts are modest. Reasonable if you need a bed now.
The first real sale event of the year. Strong promotions across most brands, and showrooms are less crowded than the summer holidays. A good option if you want deal pricing without the Memorial Day crowds.
Slower months. Spring cleaning season nudges some people toward replacing an old mattress, and tax refunds start landing in April, which is a common trigger for a purchase people have been putting off.
One of the two best weekends of the year. New models are arriving, so last year's inventory gets cleared aggressively. Selection is still wide at this point, which matters because the deepest discounts late in a clearance cycle often apply to whatever sizes are left.
Summer is steady rather than exceptional. In Los Angeles this is when heat drives a lot of mattress shopping, because a bed that sleeps hot becomes intolerable once bedroom temperatures climb and older buildings without central air hold that heat overnight. If that is your situation, cooling matters more than the calendar. See our guide to the best mattresses for hot sleepers.
The other peak weekend. Comparable to Memorial Day in discount depth, with the added advantage that retailers are clearing anything that did not move over the summer. Our Labor Day mattress sale guide for Los Angeles covers what to expect and how to prepare.
A transitional month. Some early holiday promotions begin late in October, but most retailers hold their strongest offers for November.
The biggest advertised discounts of the year, though the picture is more nuanced than the headlines suggest. Doorbuster pricing often applies to a narrow set of models, and popular sizes sell out. Come in with a shortlist. Our Black Friday mattress sales guide breaks down how to separate a real deal from a marketing number.
Early December still carries Black Friday momentum. Post-Christmas clearance in the final week can surface good pricing on remaining inventory, though selection thins out.
Timing only matters if you have time. Do not wait if:
It is also worth remembering that a comfort guarantee is often worth more than a percentage off. A discount you cannot return is a bad deal if the mattress turns out to be wrong for you.
Shop midweek if you can. Showrooms are calmer, and you get unhurried time to lie on each bed for the ten minutes it takes to form a real opinion. Ask about floor models and discontinued lines, which are frequently the best value on the floor and often barely used.
Factor in the extras too. Delivery fees, old mattress removal, and the California recycling charge all affect what you actually pay. Our delivery page explains how same-day delivery works across Los Angeles, and the recycling fee page covers the state charge. If you are replacing a bed, donating your old mattress is worth considering before you pay to haul it away.
Finally, know your budget range before you walk in. Our guide on how much to spend on a mattress gives realistic figures by quality tier.
Memorial Day weekend in May and Labor Day weekend in September are generally the two strongest windows, because they align with manufacturer model changeovers and retailers clearing outgoing inventory. Presidents Day and Black Friday are the next best. Outside those, pricing is fairly steady through the year.
Late spring through early fall covers the two peak sale periods and gives you the widest selection while clearance inventory is still deep. Late November adds the biggest advertised discounts, though sizes and models sell out faster.
May and September are the two strongest months. New model lines typically arrive in late spring, so May clears last year's stock, and September clears whatever remains after summer.
Labor Day is one of the two best weekends of the year and is comparable to Memorial Day. It has the advantage of clearing leftover summer inventory, though selection can be thinner than in May since the clearance cycle is further along.
Presidents Day offers solid discounts and noticeably lighter showroom traffic than the summer holidays, but it usually does not match the depth of Memorial Day or Labor Day. It is a good choice if you want a deal and prefer a quieter shopping experience.
