When Do Labor Day Mattress Sales Start and End?
Labor Day mattress sales generally open the weekend before the holiday and close at the end of the holiday Monday itself, which makes the practical window about ten days. In 2026 Labor Day falls on Monday, September 7, so the shopping window runs from roughly the last weekend of August through that Monday.
That is the short answer. The more useful question is which days inside the window are worth shopping, because they are not equivalent.
The typical shape of the window
Most retailers follow a similar pattern, and knowing it tells you when to turn up.
- The weekend before. Pricing goes live and clearance stock is at its fullest. This is when the widest selection of floor models exists, because none of them have sold yet.
- The weekdays in between. Quietest period, and usually the easiest time to get unhurried time with a sales consultant. Selection has thinned slightly but the good pieces are rarely gone this early.
- The holiday weekend itself. Busiest, and where the marketing is concentrated. Broad current-stock discounts are at their deepest here, but clearance selection is at its thinnest.
- Labor Day Monday. Final day. Occasionally an extra push on whatever has not moved, but you are choosing from what is left.
The tension is straightforward. Go early for selection, go late for the deepest broad discounting. If you want a specific clearance piece, early wins, because a single floor model that sells on the Saturday is not coming back on the Monday.
Why the sale exists when it does
The timing is not arbitrary. Manufacturers refresh their lineups in late summer and early autumn, so the stock on the floor in August is what has to move before new models land. A floor model that has been lain on for months cannot be sold as new, and a discontinued model cannot be reordered.
That mechanism is why the deepest reductions cluster on single items rather than applying across the range, and it is also why the window is short. Once the floor is clear the reason for the discount is gone.
Do sales really end on the Monday?
Mostly, and the exceptions are worth understanding rather than gambling on.
Some retailers run an extension for a few days after the holiday, usually because sell-through was below plan. Others quietly roll straight into an autumn promotion, so the tags never fully come off. Neither is reliable enough to plan around. If a particular clearance mattress is the one you want, treat the Monday as the deadline, because the extension is a decision about aggregate inventory and not about the item you have your eye on.
Should you shop the first day or wait for the last?
It depends on which of the two discount types you are after.
For clearance and floor models, shop early. The whole appeal is a specific unit at a large reduction, and specific units sell. For broad discounts on current, orderable stock, the last few days are usually as good as it gets and nothing runs out, because those are ordered rather than picked off the floor.

What to have settled before the window opens
The single biggest time saver is arriving knowing your firmness. Firmness labels are not standardised between brands, so this is not something you can settle by reading; it takes ten minutes lying down in your normal sleep position. Doing that before the busiest weekend, rather than during it, is the difference between a considered purchase and a rushed one.
It is also worth checking financing in advance, since sale pricing and 0% APR on approved credit apply to the same purchase and approval takes about a minute. The financing page has the terms.

Ours are. All five Los Angeles showrooms are open on the holiday Monday, with current hours on each showroom page.
Is it better to shop the first weekend or the last?
The first weekend for clearance and floor models, because those are single units and they sell. The last few days for broad discounts on current stock, which are ordered rather than picked off the floor and do not run out.
