Choose a mattress explicitly approved for adjustable use, then confirm the specific base and size. Foam, latex and hybrid categories include different constructions. Thickness or flexibility alone does not prove compatibility.
- Check the mattress
Confirm the exact model is approved to articulate.
- Match the configuration
Choose the base and mattress sizes together.
- Try the movement
Test the complete bed, flat and raised.
Check the complete combination
- The mattress
Exact model and size
Record the generation, firmness and selected size. A familiar model name alone is not enough.
- The base
Model and configuration
Confirm whether the setup is one piece, fully split or split-head, and how the controls operate.
- The instructions
Written compatibility
Check the mattress approval and the base’s support and load requirements.
- The room around it
Space to move
Check the surrounding frame, moving clearance and intended installation.
The mattress has to follow the deck
An adjustable base changes the shape of the sleeping surface. The mattress needs to follow that movement as intended without a support structure that prevents it. A model’s edge system, internal layers and intended use matter as well as the material label.
If you already own the mattress, find the label or original receipt. An older model may have different instructions from today’s similarly named product.
A material is a starting point
| Compare | What to check |
|---|---|
| Memory foam | Does the manufacturer approve this exact mattress for powered articulation? |
| Latex | Is the finished mattress, including its cover and support layers, approved? |
| Hybrid | Does this coil and edge construction allow the intended movement? |
| Innerspring | Is the specific spring system designed for adjustable use? Never force an unapproved mattress to bend. |
Do not use a universal thickness cutoff. The manufacturer’s approval and the base instructions are more useful than assuming every mattress under a certain height will work.
King, Split King or split-head?
Check size names carefully. A one-piece King, two-piece Split King and split-head mattress are different configurations. Independent movement requires the appropriate mattress arrangement and controls; two pieces placed together do not establish that the system will operate correctly.
Confirm the load limit and what it includes: mattress, sleepers and accessories. Check the manufacturer’s placement requirements for the legs and deck, then follow the adjustable-base and frame checklist.
Tempur-Pedic publishes guidance for its mattresses and bases. For a mixed-brand pairing, confirm both sides of the combination rather than treating that statement as approval for every base.
Two mattresses to explore
Use these current mattresses as comparison candidates. Read each model’s specifications, choose your size and ask the team to confirm the exact base pairing. These are starting points for a shortlist, not a blanket compatibility guarantee.
Start with the exact ProAdapt model and size, then confirm the base pairing. Try the feel while flat before comparing raised positions.

Try flat first. Then try the movement.
- Check the mattress feel while the base is flat.
- Try the raised positions you expect to use, following staff instructions.
- Notice how the mattress follows the deck and how bedding moves.
- Check getting in and out at the finished bed height.
- Record the exact mattress and base names, selected sizes and complete price.

Before you complete the setup
Clarify the details before choosing. Ask our team about your particular setup.
Does every hybrid work on an adjustable base?
No category label proves it. Follow the exact-model checklist.
Can I add a topper to make an incompatible mattress work?
A topper does not change the support construction below it. Check the mattress first and use the adjustable-base and frame checklist for the bed around it.
Can I put a box spring on the adjustable deck?
Do not add one unless the specific system’s instructions explicitly require it. Explore the foundation and height comparison to distinguish fixed supports from powered bases.
Are adjustable bases included in the mattress trial?
Check each product’s terms separately. The mattress comfort-exchange terms do not establish a base return right.
