An unresponsive adjustable base is usually a lost remote pairing, not a broken motor. Here is the 60-second power cycle, the re-pairing steps, and how to lower the bed with no remote at all.

An adjustable base that stops responding is almost never broken. In the large majority of cases the remote has simply lost its wireless pairing with the control box under the bed, or the control box needs a power cycle to clear a fault. Both are fixable at home in about five minutes, without tools and without a service call.
This guide covers the general reset and re-pairing process that applies to nearly every wireless adjustable base, including the Rize, ErgoPedic and Symphony Sleep bases we sell, plus what to do when the remote is genuinely gone.
Before resetting anything, spend two minutes on the causes that account for most service calls:
This is the first real step and it resolves a surprising share of problems. It clears the control box memory and forces the electronics to reinitialize.
If the base has a battery backup pack (many do, so the bed can be lowered during a power outage), disconnect that too during the 60 seconds. Otherwise the control box stays powered and the reset does nothing.
If the base has power but ignores the remote, the wireless pairing has been lost. Nearly all wireless adjustable bases use a variation of the same pairing sequence:
The exact button combination varies by manufacturer, so check the sticker on the control box or the manual for the specific pair. If you no longer have the manual, the model number is printed on that same sticker, which is what you need when you call for support.
Split king setups have two independent bases and two control boxes. Pair them one at a time, and unplug the second base while you pair the first. Otherwise both control boxes hear the same pairing signal and you end up with two halves that move together, or a remote that controls the wrong side. Once each side is paired individually, a dual remote can be assigned to left and right.
If the remote is lost or dead and you need the bed flat right now, you have three options:
Replacement remotes are widely available from the base manufacturer, and they are inexpensive compared with a service call. You will need the model number from the control box sticker to order the right one, since remotes are not interchangeable across brands.
A few symptoms point at the base rather than the remote. Take these seriously rather than resetting repeatedly:
Most adjustable bases carry multi-year warranties on the motor and electronics, so check your coverage before paying for a repair. If you bought your base from us, bring your order number and we will look it up.
Unplug the base from the wall, remove the remote batteries, and wait a full 60 seconds so the control box fully discharges. Disconnect any battery backup pack during that time. Plug the base back in, install fresh batteries, and test. If the base still ignores the remote, re-pair the two using the sync button on the control box.
Press and hold the sync or pair button on the control box under the bed until its indicator light blinks, then within about 30 to 60 seconds hold the pairing button combination on the remote until its light flashes. The control box light going solid confirms the pairing. The exact button combination is printed on the control box sticker or in the manual.
Look for a manual flat or home button on the control box housing under the bed, or press the button on the battery backup pack if the base has one, since that pack exists specifically to lower the bed without power. Some newer bases can also be controlled from the manufacturer's phone app.
Yes. Replacement remotes are sold by base manufacturers and are inexpensive relative to a service visit. Remotes are not universal across brands, so use the model number on the control box sticker to order the correct one, then pair it using the sync procedure above.
Intermittent operation is most often weak remote batteries or a loose cable at the control box, not a failing motor. Replace the batteries first, then check that every cable under the bed is fully seated. If the problem continues after a power cycle and re-pairing, it is time for service.
If you have power cycled the base, replaced the batteries and re-paired the remote and the bed still will not respond, the issue is in the control box or a motor and needs a technician rather than another reset.
