A full, or double, is 54 by 75 inches, wide enough for one adult with room to spread out or a teenager who has outgrown a twin. Two adults will find it tight, and for couples we point people to the queen. Full is also the size most often bought for a guest room, where the room decides.

A Full mattress measures 54" × 75" (4 ft 6 in × 6 ft 3 in). 16" wider than a Twin, same length. Best for solo sleepers who want elbow room without committing to a Queen-sized bedroom, and for smaller couples in apartments where a Queen won't fit. Sometimes called "Double", same mattress, two names.
What pairs with a Full. Full-size bedding is widely available at every retailer. Full pairs with most platform frames, traditional bed frames, and box-spring foundations. Adjustable bases are less common in Full size; couples who want adjustable usually size up to Queen.

A bedroom of at least 9x10 feet gives a full mattress enough wall clearance for one nightstand. 10x10 or larger lets you add a second nightstand and walking space on both sides. The mattress itself takes up 54" x 75" of floor space.
